Gold Recycling
Gold is one of the most universally admired and desired elements known to mankind. In addition to its many medical, industrial, and jewelry uses, Gold is also the most recycled metal in history. In this class we will learn the “How-to” of identifying golds of different karat and alloy. Learn to use a Loop and hallmarks and to use a “touch stone” with acids to separate different karats of gold in this class.
Participants will be using their own old gold jewelry as the base of learning. Separating usable gold alloy into the different karat grades for ingot making. Casting ingots and processing the ingot by reducing, annealing, and rolling mill use will be demonstrated. Turn your broken chains, earrings, and rings into wire for new jewelry use!
The first day of class will focus on gold identification and ingot making. Day two will be focus on processing the ingot into workable wire. Participants must provide their own gold for this class and will leave with their own gold recycled into a more useful form.
There will be a Material Fee of $15.00 added to the cost of the class when you register.
